Compass tablets

The Compass tablets have been specially developed for individuals who have undergone a gastric bypass. In a gastric bypass, your stomach is reduced in size and a portion of the intestines is rerouted or bypassed. As a result, you will be able to eat less, and your body will absorb fewer nutrients. The Compass tablets ensure that you still receive the necessary daily vitamins and minerals as a complement to your diet following your gastric bypass.

Recommended dosage

Take 1 Compass tablet per day, preferably before or during your evening meal. Use only as advised by your healthcare provider. If you are taking medication, make sure to read the package leaflets carefully. In case of overdose, consult your doctor.

If you accidentally forget to take your Compass tablet one day, it is not a big issue as long as it doesn’t happen too often. Simply continue taking your Compass tablets as usual the next day, without needing to make up for the missed dose or take an extra tablet.

Important

If you are also taking the Calcium Vital tablets or Calcium Chew chewable tablets, take them at a different time from the Compass tablet. There should be at least 2 hours between taking the Calcium Vital or Calcium Chew chewable tablets and your Compass tablet, to give your body enough time to properly absorb the iron.

Calcium Vital tablets

After your weight loss surgery, you will also absorb less calcium, and your body truly cannot do without it! Calcium is an essential nutrient that helps maintain strong bones and teeth and contributes to the normal functioning of your muscles. Elan has developed the Calcium Vital tablets specifically for people who have undergone weight loss surgery to help meet your daily calcium needs. Calcium Vital contains calcium citrate, a form of calcium that is well absorbed by your body. Additionally, Vitamin D3 has been added to the Calcium Vital tablets, as it enhances calcium absorption in your bones. Calcium and Vitamin D3 contribute to the maintenance of strong bones and teeth.

The required amount of calcium depends on your surgery. Based on the internationally recognized guidelines from scientific associations (ASMBS and IFSO), we recommend taking at least 1,200 – 1,500 mg per day. It’s also important to take no more than 500 mg of calcium at a time, to allow your body the opportunity and time to absorb the calcium. For the best advice after your surgery and tailored to your personal situation, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider.

Calcium is not included in Elan’s WLS products (Compass, Believe, and Supreme products) because calcium inhibits iron absorption.
